Editing. Writing. Formatting.
Developmental Editing
This is usually the first stage of editing, and covers the overall content, message, plot line, characterization, and feel of a text. The editor will work closely with the author, offering constructive criticism and developing a plan to improve the work. Writing, rewriting, and research are performed collectively by both editor and author. The editor essentially plays the role of a writing coach.
Fee: $5.00 per print page
Copy Editing
This is the middle stage of editing, performed after the developmental edit but before the final proofread. The text will be reviewed contextually with regard to organization, style, and overall clarity. The text will additionally be reviewed grammatically with regard to consistency, spelling, syntax, punctuation, and usage. Fact checking can be performed upon request for an additional fee.
Fee: $4.00 per page
Proofreading
This is the last stage of editing, and as such will be performed on final proofs. It provides one last review in search of grammatical and spelling errors, as well as design-induced errors around character styles.
Fee: $3.00 per page
